About Bill

Dr. Bill Schindler is a food archaeologist, primitive technologist and chef. He travels the world with his family documenting traditional food ways and works to draw inspiration from the deep archaeological record, rich and diverse ethnographic record and modern culinary world to create food solutions that are relevant, meaningful and accessible in our modern lives. He shares all these stories in his book, Eat Like a Human, and puts the recipes into practice at his family’s Modern Stone Age Kitchen in Chestertown, Maryland.

WITH RELISH #13 – NATURAL FOOD: ELMHURST FARM & DR BILL SCHINDLER

On episode 13 of With Relish, Harry and Aoife take a trip back to their roots, and by that we mean their actual ancient roots. This week’s offering of the podcast looks at the theme of Natural Food.

By taking a very anthropological approach we tackled some big issues such as;

Why is our diet the way it is today?
What can we learn from our ancient ancestors?
How difficult is it to kill a deer with a bow and arrow?

To help us answer these questions, we were joined by Dr Bill Schindler who spoke about his Food Evolutionsproject and gave us insight into his sabbatical year teaching UCD’s archaeology students.

We also took the show on the road and visited organic grower Rossa Cassidy at his Elmhurst Cottage, an urban farm hidden in the middle of Dublin 9.
